"The first 6 months my wife and
I were married I complained about how she was paying the bills. She
would pay the bills as soon as they came rather than waiting until
they were due resulting in cash flow problems for us. She informed
me that since I didn't like the way she did it I could do it myself.
I've been taking care of the bills for the last 19 years. Any time I
notice a problem with something, like how she cooks something or
shops for groceries, she just reminds me that I'm paying the bills
now would I like to take on another task and I shut my mouth."

"Some of the bills are paid
online. If the company accepts payments online I use that, if they
don't then I send a check in the envelope the old fashioned way. I
don't use an online bill pay system unless it comes from the
company."

"We've tried having him pay the
bills but it just didn't work for us. I love your newsletter!"

"I know it's not like this in
all families so I don't want to generalize, but in my family, my
husband doesn't really know where all our money goes and doesn't
want to know. We consult each other on large matters, but I
basically take care of the day to day stuff. I have tried to get my
husband to think about saving, investing, getting life insurance,
etc., but he just refuses to think about such things. He only wants
to spend."
--Elaine
"If I did not take care of the
bill paying the bills would not be paid. My husband has no desire to
know what our bills are and how much we owe. I try to educate him
however it's not a priority to him. We also have multiple bank
accounts in different places and likewise he doesn't really care to
know how much we have in them. At first it was frustrating to be the
one to spend the time paying the bills but he doesn't question me
when I spend money."
