Far better to dare
mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even

twilight that knows not victory, nor defeat."--Theodore

The average overall college
aid package was $7,352. Private schools tend to be more
generous with aid than public schools. They also charge
much more for tuition. The average award at private
colleges was $13,147, with 83 percent of their students
receiving help. For public schools, the package was
$7,619 for almost 70 percent of students.

Letter from the Publisher
by Scott Bilker
Hi,
I hope
all is well with you and your family!
Last week, I expanded the size of DebtSmart.com by moving streaming media files to another server. Now, I
have another 50GB of space! Nice! That means I'll be able to bring you
more video, audio, or any large files that would not otherwise fit on
the current website.
I started testing the new space by
loading some older media clips that I've really wanted to share with you
for a while,
but just didn't have the room. The first couple I loaded are archived
television interviews I did before DebtSmart.com existed-- just after the
publication of my first book, Credit Card and Debt Management.
These files are in the Windows Media
format, so I am going to apologize in advance if you have any problems with
the video. You can be sure that any new video I create will be in the
Real Media, Flash, and other streaming media formats.
One of my favorite hosts is J.J. Burns.
He's a NY financial planner and was hosting his In the Money show
back in 1997. He invited me to be a guest on his show on 10/21/97.
J.J. is focused on helping people with their money. We talked in detail
about credit card and debt management.
You can watch that interview clip here.
My first ever TV interview was on PBS on
10/1/97. The show is Take Note hosted by Patty Satalia. She
did a great job of covering the topic. I'm sure you'll find something
helpful here as well.
You can watch that interview clip here.
Enjoy!
Best,
Scott

10 financial questions you should ask yourself today!
by Scott BilkerTo quote the very
well-known motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, "Questions are the
answer." What exactly does he mean? Tony believes, as do I, that you
have the ability to find the answer to any question. They key is to ask
the right questions.
If you're constantly asking yourself,
"Why was I so stupid to get into debt?", your brain is going to give you
an answer like, "Because you're a loser."

"I saved $1,334 per hour. It was so easy!"
"I spent about 2 hours reading this book (Talk
Your Way Out of Credit Card Debt), getting comfortable with the
strategies. Then, after my first phone call, which saved me $210 per
year, I was off and running! I was able to reduce my interest rate by as
much as 9%. I called all six of my Mastercard/Visa companies and was
able to save $1,983 per year from the finance charges plus having a
$59.00 annual fee removed and a late fee removed ($29.00). The $/hour
saved ranged from $141/hour to $2,464/hour and averaged $1,334/hour. It
was so easy!!"

BilkerThis question is from my

You have to choose between two different
job offers for the same four-day period. The first job pays $5.00 each
day for the four days. The second job pays $1.00 for the first day, and
each day after the first, you will be paid twice the amount you received
the previous day. Which job will pay you the greatest amount?

Get motivated to get out of debt
by Barry W.
WainwrightSo, there you sit, most
likely all stressed out and worried because you have a lot of debt.
Well, you don't have to be if you would only get busy and get motivated to rid yourself of some debt. Believe me, it's easier than you
think and not all that hard. And, I can now speak from experience, and I
would like to share some of my financial trade secrets and ideas with you.
But don't just read this article thinking, "Yeah, maybe it worked for
him, but it won't for me!" Do not think that way! In fact, it is also
very paramount, imperative and very important that you stop being so
pessimistic and negative as that way of thinking will get you nowhere
