Hi,

Bankruptcy reform is here! Too bad it's all good for the banks and not the consumer. This topic is featured as the lead article in this email newsletter issue.

Hey, are you looking for the best prices for gas in your area? Here's the solution. Check out FuelEconomy.gov to search for prices in your area.

Speaking about best prices...I've been working to secure the best prices on phone service for you! I'll be launching this before the end of May (fingers crossed). Rates as low as 3.5 cents for in-state calling and very low international rates depending on where you want to talk. Everyone can save some money off their phone bill and it's my focus to bring you the best savings in all your budget categories.

Regards,
Scott

Bankruptcy Law Passes House
by Scott Bilker

Bankruptcy change legislation passed Congress last week in a 302 to 126 vote and has been signed into law by President Bush. The changes introduced by this bill are tough on consumers and good for banks. Banks are having their cake and eating it too, as the hackneyed-cliché goes.

This bill has been in the works for eight years. President Clinton vetoed the measure back in 2000 and the banks have been fighting ever since then to get it back on the table. Success for them is at hand, unfortunately for us.

Stop Debt Collectors Cold

Review by Scott Bilker

Each week I receive dozens of emails from people being hounded by debt collectors. These collectors are horrible! They can harass, threaten, and embarrass their victims without regard for the law. There have been many articles posted at DebtSmart by those attacked by these evil hounds.

Yes, that's strong language and I am sure that the "good" debt collectors (if there is such a thing) are going to send me hate mail in about 10 minutes, but the truth is that the majority of these "folks" don't care at all about your situation. They're out to suck as much cash from you as possible.

In the past I've advised people of the techniques needed to deal with debt collectors however, a comprehensive information package has been created that I can recommend that will help--for sure!

It's been written by best-selling author, Gerri Detweiler, attorney John Ventura, and Mary Reed, personal finance author. Not only is this aimed at Stopping Debt Collectors Cold but they also include four other great reports: How to Get Collection Accounts Off Your Credit Report, How to Avoid Losing Your Home In A Foreclosure, What to Do if You Are Behind on Your Car Payments, and Confidential Interview With A Former Debt Collector.

I highly recommend that you take a look at this information so you're prepared to effectively deal with debt collectors!

What's Your #1 Excuse?
by Dr. Joe Vitale

Before my latest book, "The Attractor Factor," became a #1 bestseller at Barnes and Noble online last week, people told me I was nuts to try to promote a book when Harry Potter was already in the top spot.

"You don't stand a chance," one author wrote. "Why don't you wait until Potter is off the list?"

After my book hit the streets, made all the lists, beat Trump, Da Vinci, and even Harry Potter, some people said, "Well, okay, but that only happened because the new Harry Potter book isn't in print yet."

Gee. How come Potter was #1 then?

Still others suggested that perhaps the Trump and Da Vinci books were just having a really bad day.

Yea. Riiiiiiight.

I marvel at the thinking of some people. No matter what you say or do, they stick to their excuses and stay negative, limited, and stuck. Yet they don't see it. They think, "I'm just being objective."

Are they?

I venture to say most of us operate from our unconscious mind. That is the predominate and most powerful operating system in us. None of us are totally...

Helping you with your debt is very important to me personally! If you've been reading my articles, you know that I always encourage self-help as a first step. However, being buried in debt can be very overwhelming, which is why you may want to explore other options.

How to Correct Mixed or Split Credit Reports
by Pammila Phillis

Credit reports contain errors on a regular basis. So, before applying for new credit or beginning your credit repair journey make sure that all of the information contained in your credit report is yours.

Reasons for such mixes include:

Common name. For example, a father and son who live at the same address, or who don't add "Sr." or "Jr." when completing credit applications.

Loan officers make clerical mistakes. For example, spelling names wrong, transposing social security numbers when pulling the credit report, or even entering incorrect addresses.

When reporting data to the Credit Reporting Agency (CRA) personal information is entered incorrectly. For example, an address at which you never lived.

How To Telecommute Successfully
by Kelly Land

Telecommuting is becoming more and more popular these days. Why? Because our technology enables us to do almost anything from a home office. Virtual meetings can be held via the Internet with a web camera and finished work can be sent by e-mail. We waste a lot of time and energy just getting to and from work. How many hours have you wasted in grid locked traffic or waiting for a late bus, car-pooler or train? Telecommuters are generally more productive, provided you don't let distractions get in your way! So how do you get the boss to let you telecommute?
