Thank you for responding to the last issue’s survey! The results are quite
interesting and are included in this email newsletter.
Debit card fee alert
I always use a credit card over a debit card. One of the many reasons for this
being that the debit card doesn’t
provide the same legal protections. If that’s not enough, here's a new one.
If you use your debit card at the checkout register, there's a good chance that
you will pay an added fee. Debit card fees are not new but now they're becoming
much more common.
Keep in mind that this fee is only assessed if you make the purchase as a debit
and use your PIN to finalize the transaction. If you press the
"credit" key, sign your name on the receipt, then there's no fee.

DebtSmart® Presidential Survey Results
by Scott Bilker
The results are very interesting. For example, most people responded
that Kerry is more on the side of consumers and said that he would be better at protecting us from the banks. However, most feel that
they have a better chance of getting out of debt under a Bush presidency.
The bottom line is that DebtSmart readers give Bush a 12-point lead!
And that lead is about 20 points in matters of national security, which is
about the same lead for having him over for dinner.
Here is the shocker--the majority of responders, by less than one percent,
said that Kerry is not a war hero. I suppose that his focus on Vietnam has
tainted people’s feelings about his service.
Here are a few comments from the survey:
"My debts have nothing to do with who is president. I believe both
will do the best they can, but I really feel that Bush is the best
candidate and the best leader. Kerry has made such a big deal about his
military background and his Purple Heart, that if I hear it once more I
may be ill! At least Bush has the sense to not talk about his military
experience. And Kerry telling our enemies that if he becomes president
that he will withdraw our troops in 6 months, what kind of smart strategy
is that?!! Not good military or leadership strategy that's for sure!

"I voted for Nader last election, but won't do that again. Bush is
just as dumb as I feared, but much more dangerous. He doesn't even
recognize when he has reversed his own positions. He only recognizes when
Kerry does it. Kerry isn't perfect, but he does have a better grasp of the
big picture in our dangerous world."

"I am working very hard to pay down my debt, and should be
debt-free in about 18 months. I know that John Kerry will raise income
taxes, which will seriously hurt my plan and cause me to be in debt much
longer."

"Neither candidate will represent consumers or the middle class.
Neither will stand against big money."

"Great survey! I had a few no selections mostly because I think
either would be equally bad. Too bad John McCain didn’t make it in 2000.
Things would be a lot different."

"Advice that saved $734 and helped get $490 in credits"
"I took your advice and moved the remaining $18,900 dollars of my car
loan at 4.9% interest onto two, 0% credit card offers I had received. According
to my Credit Union’s own loan calculator this has saved me $734 in interest
alone this year--more than a payment on the original loan.
I also applied for and got the AmEx Blue, Cash Back Credit card that is
advertised on your site. So far I've accrued $430 in cash back credits. After
using this card I got a Mastercard paying 1% on purchases and 3% on gas. So far
I've earned over $60 in credits and by the end of the year the two cards should
make another car payment.
You have two coupons for orange juice. One is for Minute Maid the other is
for Tropicana. You like, and drink, both brands. The coupon for Minute Maid is
for 2 half-gallon containers for $3. The coupon for Tropicana is $4.99 for a
96-ounce container. Which orange juice is the best deal? That is, which has the
best price-per-unit volume? Hint: there are 128 fluid ounces in one gallon.

Are You Paying Tony The Tiger's Salary?

Why is the price of cereal so high? How much does it really cost to make corn
flakes with sugar coating?
I have a major problem paying $3.89 for a box of cereal that more than likely
cost $0.35 to make! What if I were to tell you that I NEVER, EVER pay more than
$0.50 for a box of name-brand, good tasting cereal? You are probably thinking
"no way" or "not possible!" But it is! How, you say? By
using coupons, yes coupons.
You know what they are. Those little pieces of paper that people have in the
grocery checkouts that drive you absolutely insane because they hold up the
line. And of course you always...
Helping you with your debt is very important to me personally! If you've been
reading my articles, you know that I always encourage self-help as a first step.
However, being buried in debt can be very overwhelming, which is why you may
want to explore other options.
One of those options is professional, ongoing help with credit counselors.
I've started to personally check out certain companies so I can recommend the

It's a GREAT tool for knocking out pop-up ads. It installs in seconds and
becomes part of your browser window. It’s also easy to turn off, just go to
"view, toolbars" and unclick Alexa.
Alexa is an Amazon company. They track, and rank, all web sites based on
activity of toolbar users. That’s fine with me because Amazon is a trusted
online company, and I’m tired of the pop-up ads.
This toolbar really did the trick of eliminating those annoying pop-ups, which
is especially great if you have kids, so they don’t tricked into clicking on
something you wouldn’t want them to see. You can decide which sites you want
to block the pop-up from and those whose you need. For example, you don’t want
to block pop-ups from DebtSmart.com.
Please support DebtSmart.com by installing this custom Alexa Toolbar right

Chris Peruzzi vs. the Debt Counselors by Chris Peruzzi
I've got SUCH a headache.
If you ever want to see me lose my temper really fast, talk to me about my
debt counseling company. I have never had to deal with such a band of galactic
level screw-ups in my life. In a roundabout way, I would guess that they are
doing the job they are supposed to be doing. They are curing me of any kind of
desire to ever be in debt again.
I tell you it would have been better if I had never even started this
venture. Honest to God! These people are horrible. I think that if I had gotten
a home equity loan at a lower interest rate, not only would I NOT have the
problems that I have with these people, but my credit record...
